GB3RPE 10GHz Beacon
Carmarthen Amateur Radio Society has acquired the old 10GHz beacon from Swansea University and an application for an NoV has been made to re-site the beacon at the University of Wales Trinity St David at Carmarthen.
The new state-of-the-art RF hardware will be supplied by Chris Bartram GW4DGU and the Arduino control system will be built by Tim Clark MW0RUD.
A new waveguide antenna has already been constructed with assistance from Ken GW0RHC.
The beacon will give its callsign in both CW and PI4 modulation. Here you can read a bit about the PI4 modulation scheme which should allow you to decode signals below the noise floor:
There is a lot of information to digest on the OZ2M website, so here is the link to a Windows decoder which you should be able to use to decode
On the next page you can see how to set up an inexpensive 10GHz receive only system using a Sky dish, a PLL LNB and a SDR dongle.
In the near future, we also aim to advise on how to set up an inexpensive WFM RX/TX system.
